The Yogaendless Team’s Favorite Moments from Rooted 1.0
Before Rooted 2.0 begins, a few moments from the first one that we still think about.

Key takeaways
- Rooted 1.0 taught us as much as it gave the guests who joined, especially about what actually matters in the day’s structure.
- The most memorable moments weren’t the planned highlights, they were the unplanned, in-between ones.
- Several small details from Rooted 1.0 are being carried forward directly into how Rooted 2.0 is run.
- The group’s connection to each other turned out to matter as much as the setting itself.
Before Rooted 2.0 gets underway, we wanted to take a moment to look back at the first one. Not the marketing version, the actual small moments that stuck with the team long after everyone flew home.
Why we wanted to look back before looking forward
Running a retreat teaches you things you can’t plan for in advance, what actually resonates, what quietly falls flat, which small details matter far more than they seem to on paper. Before we welcome a new group to Dunagiri, it felt right to revisit what genuinely stayed with us from the first one.
The sunrise nobody wanted to leave
We’d planned twenty minutes for the sunrise hike on day two. Nobody moved for nearly an hour. There was no phone in sight, no one filling the silence with conversation, just a group of near-strangers standing together, watching the light change over the hills. We ended up building more unscheduled time into every morning after that, almost by accident.
The quiet that surprised everyone
We’d expected some resistance to the quieter stretches of the schedule, people are used to filling every gap with conversation or a phone. Instead, by day three, the quiet had become one of the most requested parts of the day. Several guests asked if we could extend it. We did.
The meal that ran long, on purpose
One dinner, meant to wrap in an hour, stretched past two, not because anything was behind schedule, but because nobody wanted to leave the table. That’s when it became clear that the meals weren’t just refuelling between sessions, they were doing real work of their own, bringing the group together in a way the formal sessions alone couldn’t.
The goodbye that wasn’t really a goodbye
On the final morning, what we expected to be a quick, slightly emotional farewell turned into an hour of everyone trading numbers, half-promising to meet up back in Mumbai, some of them still texting each other months later. It reminded us that the retreat doesn’t really end when people fly home, it just changes shape.
“Running Rooted 1.0 changed how I think about what a retreat is actually for. I went in thinking my job was to teach. I came out realising my job was mostly to build the conditions where people could actually meet each other, and themselves.” — Anjali Pandey, Founder, Yogaendless
What we’re carrying into Rooted 2.0
Rooted 1.0 quietly reshaped how we’ve built Rooted 2.0: more unscheduled time built into mornings, longer space around meals, and quieter stretches left intentionally open rather than filled. Same five days in Dunagiri, Uttarakhand, same daily asana, meditation, pranayama, and satvic meals, guided by Anjali Pandey, but shaped by everything we learned the first time around.

Is Rooted 2.0 exactly the same as Rooted 1.0?
The core structure, daily asana, meditation, pranayama, and satvic meals in Dunagiri, remains the same, with adjustments based on what we learned runs best, like more open time around mornings and meals.
Do past Rooted guests stay in touch with each other?
Many do. It’s common for guests from the same retreat group to stay loosely connected well after the trip ends.
What was the biggest lesson from running Rooted 1.0?
That unscheduled, unhurried time, around meals, mornings, and quiet stretches, often mattered more to guests than the formally planned sessions.
Did everything go perfectly during Rooted 1.0?
No, and that’s part of the honest story. A few logistical hiccups helped shape improvements that are already built into how Rooted 2.0 runs.
Will Rooted 2.0 have similar unplanned, memorable moments?
We can’t script that, that’s part of what makes them real, but building in more open, unhurried time is specifically meant to make space for them.
